Ardenvale - Vale Family - Round 1

Vale Family, Round 1, in which I get a feel for playing medieval. I miss my decorating go-tos (framed pictures and potted succulents ilu). I will be rolling for a ROS every new season, except the first, so I don't need to worry about that yet.

Meet Aveline Vale, eldest of the Vale sisters and our heir for this legacy. Avaline and her husband, Edmund, are farmers. It's their dream to feed their entire extended family with the yield from their land. But for now it would be nice if they could manage enough to feed their small household.

Time to get to work.

Avaline and Edmund share a no bolts love (boo!), but there is love and a deep understanding in their marriage.

(And they are cute together, so screw you, weird TS2 attraction system)

They also bond over being terrible at their OTHs.

"There is something different in you... I feel it in the air... I see it on your skin..."
"Good day, Evaine. It is a lovely day, isn't it?"
"You are with child."

"A child? Are you certain?"
"I am never wrong..."
"But this is wonderful news! I must tell Edmund! And you must stay for dinner!"
"Dinner would be welcome... I have much to discuss with Edmund..."

I'm not sure if there will be dinner. Aveline truly is a terrible cook. Have I mentioned that Aveline's OTH is cooking?

"My sister is with child..."
"Oh, that is marvelous news! Which one?"
"The one that concerns you the most..."
"Aveline is...? Oh my Watcher! I must-"
"You are to blame for this..."

"That's an odd way of putting it."
"Do not take me lightly, Edmund Vale..."
"Evaine, you're making no sense."
"You have endangered her with your primitive urges..."
"My primitive... What?"

"If she dies, there will be no place you'll be safe from me..."

"I can't wait to see my child. What else do you know? Is there something else you can see?"
"It does not work like that..."
"Could Rune see more?"
"Rune is a healer, not a seer..."
"Oh, of course."

"I will return home. I will bring Rune the news and your well wishes."
"Of course, feel free to come by any time. That goes for Rune, too."
"Keep her safe."

There was a massive thunderstorm that lasted the entire night.

Evaine came by that afternoon.

Luckily for Edmund, she brought their brother-in-law, Caleb.
"Congratulations on the little one, brother. May the Watcher look over you all."
"Thanks, Caleb."

"Father Gideon worries about the Jacobans gaining more ground in our region."
"Is that something you also worry about?"
"I think we could coexist. We both serve the Watcher, there should be no need for disagreement."
"That is not my experience..."

"But enough about that. On the way here Evaine shared joyous news. How is Aveline?"
"She better be in perfect health..."
"She is, Evaine, thanks for your concern."
"Do I sense something here?"
"Evaine is... worried for her sister. That's all."
"That's commendable. It's sweet of you to worry, Evaine."
"I am not sweet... I am cautious..."

"You shouldn't tease Edmund, Evaine. You'll have him fuss over me all day."
"Good..."

"I shall pray to the Watcher and ask him to turn his eye on Aveline and the baby."

"Thank you, Caleb. I will sleep better knowing that."
"It's no trouble, I assure you."

That night, under the full moon, something happened.
"Edmund?"

"I'm up, I'm up!"

That night, Avaline and Edmund welcomed little Alistair, who seems to be a tiny copy of his father. Both mother and baby survived their death roll. (I rolled a 2- for Aveline. I might have yelled "Nat 20, bring it ON!" before remembering that's another game.)

Edmund takes over from Aveline, so she can catch up on some much needed sleep.

The last day of spring passes in a blur of farming and baby caring.
And that finished round 1 of the Vale family. I'm so happy both Aveline and Alistair survived their rolls, I was seriously stressing about it. Next up: the Haywise family
